Anyone else? His new column in the NY Post:

Right-wing talk radio in particular pounded Kerry and also bludgeoned Dan Rather for his role in another smear incident - the charges against President Bush about his National Guard service. Again, Rather was found guilty without a fair hearing. Charges that he intentionally approved bogus documents that made Bush look bad were leveled and widely believed. It was chilling.

He had chances to give himself a fair hearing! He’s on national television every night! But he kept insisting they were true and anyone who said otherwise lied! And now there’s this investigation, another chance for a ‘fair hearing’ and considering they’re dealing with a big bunch of “investigative” reporters, they’re sure taking their sweet time. Maybe he doesn’t want a fair hearing! Augh!

It may be true that Rather did not vet the information supplied to him by producers, but few anchor people do. They are dependent on other journalists, and this is a huge flaw in the system.

The other flaw in the system is when you do make a “mistake”, you continue making it every night, all while telling people who could be trying to help you that they’re liers and layabouts. Ergh.

Dan Rather is guilty of not being skeptical enough about a story that was politically loaded. I believe Rather, along with Andy Rooney, Walter Cronkite and other guardsmen of the old CBS News, is liberal in his thinking.

Exactly! He is liberal! And Bill wants us all to think that if I were a big shot journalist, who hated, for instance, Hillary Clinton as she ran for President, and one of my producers dropped a file on my desk and giggled “this could be the end of her!” that I wouldn’t gleefully go through every single page, cackling all the while, never mind how objective I appear while actually on tv? And if I were a member of Hillary’s opposition party, I wouldn’t know what the MO is and carefully pick it apart to make sure it wouldn’t be torn apart by the spin-doctors? It’s common sense!

But you’ll be seeing more of this kind of thing in the future. All famous and successful Americans are now targets. Unscrupulous people know that any accusation can be dumped on the Internet and within hours the mainstream media will pick it up. It will be printed in the papers, discussed on radio and TV and become part of the unfortunate person’s résumé whether he or she is guilty or not. A click of the Internet mouse can wipe out a lifetime of honor and hard work. Just the accusation or allegation can be ruinous.

Geez. Poor Bill gets caught with recordings of his long-distance heavy petting, and suddenly he’s awful concerned about accusations “dumped” in the internet that the mainstream media automatically picks up, lovingly brushes off, and airs for the world (or Dudge) to see. Psh.

Let me ask you something: In the future, do you think potential public servants and social crusaders are going to risk being brutally attacked within this insane system? I don’t. I think many good people are simply going to walk away from the public arena.

Hmm, gee, I dunno. Let’s ask Newt Gingrich. Or, hey! Rush Limbaugh! Hell even Michelle Malkin. Or, wait! Ronald Reagan and G Bush and GW Bush and anyone else who ever had the bad luck to run for office and happened to be on the opposite side of the political spectrum from Dan Rather.

Unfair freedom of speech did him in. This is not your grandfather’s country anymore.

Oh puke. Well, I’m sure Bill’s having fun being oh-so-wealthy (as he keeps pointing out) in New Jack City, and probably goes to alllll the parties with allllll the other media types, so now he gets to keep his party card.
