The Time Person of the Year is defined as the one person in the news who most influenced that year’s events. In 2001, the obvious choice was, as Time admitted, Osama bin Laden. But in case that was misconstrued as an endorsement, they chose Rudy Guiliani instead. So, obviously, Time is more than capable of giving the Person of the Year to someone who perhaps isn’t quite the Person of the Year.

That said, it’s been said that the obvious choice for Person of the Year is George W Bush. The leader of the free world is, practically by default, except in extreme circumstances (such as 2001) most capable of influencing the year’s events. And this year, I think we can all agree, the leader of the free world has been busier than usual influencing those events. However, it’s also been said that they probably won’t choose him a) because he’s already been the Person of the Year and b) because the Press Corps for Kerry Fan Club is still smarting from losing. So, second choice, who most influenced who would be most influencing the world’s events? Well, some have said the bloggers. I think this is true. However, the Press Corps for Kerry Fan Club hasn’t shown it understands the bloggers enough to realize perhaps what it is they do.

I view the whole Press Corps for Kerry Fan Club v. Bloggers in a more light hearted way.

Joel Robinson is LGF, perhaps, and Crow and Tom can be Powerline and Instapundit, repectively.
