Since when does being polite suddenly spark heated debates around the world?

Lorie Byrd at PoliPundit lept to Laura Bush’s defense because of some stupid UK article calling her a mummy-wife.

Why is it even necessary to discuss it? Not too long ago, if any family member of a person in a position of political power acted with anything less than dignity and decorum, they’d be thrown out of office, or made a laughing stock. A public scandal.

I don’t think she’s Stepford, I don’t think she’s selfless. I think she’s behaving herself in a way appropriate of a lady. ‘Nuff said.
