PETA Wallows in Ridiculousness
Two articles, side by side:
PETA to Vice President Cheney: Show Some Reel Compassion
Dear Mr. Vice President:
I am writing on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the world’s largest animal rights organization, with more than 800,000 members and supporters worldwide, to ask you to please consider recent research indicating that fish are as intelligent as dogs and cats. I most respectfully ask that when you retire, you take up hiking, bird-watching, or boating without your rod and reel—as alternatives to fishing, which causes the animals on the end of the line immeasurable agony.

Mayhem in Sudan continues:
“A new report says the military in Sudan is slaughtering elephants to feed an illegal market for ivory.
“The report for charity Care for the Wild International says elephants are being killed in Southern Sudan, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic to feed the illegal trade. It is estimated between 6,000 and 12,000 elephants are killed each year in central Africa.
“The report claims that Sudanese soldiers have entered national parks to kill the animals, particularly in the northern Democratic Republic of Congo where the slaughter is said to be out of control.
“It is claimed the soldiers are using their government ammunition to kill the elephants and then transporting their body parts through Khartoum.”
So, let’s review. A bunch of anti-gun-control, racist, bigoted homophobes are slaughtering an endangered and beautiful, sensitive, intelligent species precious to our human existence, and an 800,000-strong organization of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are writing letters to the Vice President telling him, in his retirement, he shouldn’t spend his free time catching aquatic gilled vertibrates without nervous systems. Go bloody figure.
And btw, if you even look at their website, which features article titles like “Sweet, Smart, Fascinating Sheep,” and Orangutans Don’t Belong on Soap Operas,” you have to ask yourself, do they serve any real purpose anymore?
