The Australian - Bag-wrapping service booms as travellers fear being next ‘mule’ by Tony Koch

TRAVELLERS are so concerned about possible tampering with their luggage at airports that security wrapping in plastic of suitcases at Brisbane international airport has more than doubled in the past six months.

An hour after Schapelle Corby was sentenced to 20 years’ jail in Bali after being found guilty of smuggling drugs, New Zealand backpacker Liz Webby, 18, made the “Protectabag” service her first port of call at Brisbane airport. Ms Webby said it was “so unfair” for Corby to have to serve 20 years “when the Bali bomber got out after 18 months when more than 100 people were murdered”

Apparently they search for explosives before shrink-wrapping the suitcases, but considering I can’t leave on my little tin lock, I can’t imagine Homeland Security letting anyone get on an international flight with their luggage that protected from searches.

Hmm, be that as it may, that doesn’t mean Australians should pour all that money into the place. If people have to be that worried about what will happen to them when they go on a surfing holiday, maybe they should leave that particular destination to the people who “do things differently, just as they choose.” It’s a good thing Hawaii belongs to us, eh?
