This story was told at the YFE conference last week, which I was reminded of just now, for reasons that will become abundantly clear:

Cardinal Ratzinger was heading to work one day, and was walking along a street in the Vatican, and a small group of tourists ran up to him, crying, “Cardinal, Cardinal! May we have a photograph?” So Cardinal Ratzinger took their camera and asked, “Where would you like me to photograph you?”

So the library emailed me yesterday that (then) Ratzinger’s Introduction To Christianity was in and waiting for me. I picked it up yesterday and just read the three introductions (Rome, 2000, and Tübingen, 1968 and 69), the first of which (Rome, 2000) was the lengthiest and most interesting. So I thought I’d provide a few excerpts over the next couple of days, in order to a) pad the content of this blog a little and b) contribute something to the general improvement of it, myself, and my participation of the Apostolic Letter THE RAPID DEVELOPMENT OF THE HOLY FATHER JOHN PAUL II TO THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR COMMUNICATIONS. Noble of me, eh? But don’t worry, I shan’t go so far as to try to convert anyone, or scripture-whip my readers. That would be quite a bore, wouldn’t it.
