Happy New Years, Oz!
It’s an annual tradition, New Years Eve Morn: I wake up to photos of fireworks over the Sydney Opera House. And since I’m usually either busy or in bed when the photos of my own country’s fireworks hit the wire, it’s become sort of the definitive New Years picture. Interesting, no?

Hey, it’s 2006! That’s because they needed to put the international dateline somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and we are right next to the middle of no where! We need to figure out some way to make money out of this. If a kid can drawn in a million bucks selling pixel squares…
What about some firework shots ala the “Sleepless in Seattle” scene?

(Prince Edward Island? Home of Anne of Green Gables?)
Dude you watch that movie too often. What Sleepless in Seattle fireworks scene? I remember the big heart in the Empire State Building…
Remember at the (one year until the) Millennium when that little Pacific island, absolutely the last in line to change, closest to the dateline but on the wrong side, decided to switch sides so they could enter the (not the) Millennium (yet) first?
Oh you mean from me? Yeah if I get any decent ones. It’s the first year I’ve actually been here (only the third year, though) and the first year Peter reported that the wind blew all the smoke right up the hill to us, so all you could see were flashes behind the smoke.

We got plenty of smoke here at the moment.
