Gaming Grannies
BBC - Grey gamers flex brain muscles
In Japan’s rapidly ageing society, more and more older people are looking for ways to keep them active and alert for longer.
Electronic games makers have responded with new products designed to train your brain.
The games developed by scientists will, it is claimed, help to delay the onset of dementia.
We got Brain Age a couple weeks ago. And since I have a family history of Alzheimer’s, I like to think I’m getting an early handle on it. We were at Best Buy a few weeks later and these two middle aged ladies came scurrying into the video game section and one of them grabbed a copy of it and exclaimed “Here it is!” And started explaining it to her friend. Later we saw them in the checkout line with two copies and two new Nintendo DSs
. It was pretty cute.

Anyway, so there I was with nothing but a wallet full of F.I.A.T. money when an Abarth badged Cab pullz right up next to me, I give a wink and a nod and sure as hell here comes Teddy Roosevelt with the fish and a huge shovel……
Seriously, I’m gonna ask the SO about this, Alz and Srokes are her thing.

You should!
Although I wouldn’t get carried away. We’d miss your random orations on F.I.A.T. money and Teddy Roosevelt.

Great idea! I think I’ll get one too. Then the next time someone says I have the mental age of a twelve year old, I’ll be able to take it as a compliment.

Ooh I feel like such a salesman.
The ideal brain age in the game is 20. Peter’s gotten there a couple times, but I’ve been stuck at 44. The bastard doctor says “Oh, that’s 19 years older than your real age, isn’t it?” Jerk. (You’ll see. It’s hosted by the doctor who developed it.)
It has sudoku, too.
You know, maybe I got into the upper thirties once… I’m really bad at adding and subtracting in my head!

Most of that sort of stuff is biased toward math ability, because it is easier to test. I’ll bet your brain is a lot younger than it looks.

Yes well, there’s also the speed reading test, which I nail Peter to the wall with.

Speed reading? It’s the best thing. I recommend Reading In Competion
/Yes, I need more summer work.
