You’ve got a bit of a read ahead of you, but it’s important. (If you must skim, at least skim all three.)

The Sunday Times - How right wing the left sounds after its moment of racial truth, by Rod Liddle

It is amazing how a few by-election shocks and some madmen with explosive backpacks can concentrate the mind. At any rate, British citizens, black and white, can move onwards together — towards a sunlit upland of monoculturalism, or maybe zeroculturalism, whatever takes your fancy. …

It has all been a long time coming. Some 22 years ago Ray Honeyford, the previously obscure headmaster of Drummond middle school in Bradford, suggested, in the low-circulation right-wing periodical The Salisbury Review, that his Asian pupils should really be better integrated into British society.

They should learn English, for a start, and a bit of British history and a sense of what the country is about; further, Asian (Muslim) girls should be allowed to learn to swim despite the objections of their parents (who did not like them stripping down even in front of each other). Muslim kids should be treated like every other pupil, in other words.

For these mild contentions, Honeyford was investigated by the government, vilified as a racist by the press, ridiculed every day by leftie demonstrators outside his office and was eventually hounded from his job. He has not worked since. …

One assumes that Kelly would still be telling the white working class to get over it were it not for the BNP’s inroads into the Labour vote (where they have candidates who can read without moving their lips over every word) and, of course, the presence within our midst of people who are possessed of such a loathing of our culture, of our very existence, that they wish to kill us all.

It has transpired that this was the final triumph of multiculturalism — to create within British society a sizeable body of people who have been assured that it is absolutely fine not to integrate because, if we’re honest, the prevailing culture is worthless: oppressive and decadent. People who are, as a result, perhaps terminally estranged and who have been relentlessly encouraged in their sense of alienation.

The news that the bombers of July 7 last year and those who allegedly plotted to blow up a whole bunch of aeroplanes were British born apparently came as a shock to the government. Well, it did not come as a shock to those of us who viewed multiculturalism as both dangerous and inherently racist.

It seemed, to people like Honeyford, a simple case of cause and effect. In the end, it is not the mad mullahs at whom we should direct our wrath, but the white liberals who enabled them to prosper. That the creed has now been binned should be a cause for celebration; but don’t for a moment expect an admission that they got it wrong in the first place.

Telegraph - Britain must unite behind our shared values

First, Mr Honeyford is mentioned, then:

Yet, although Mr Honeyford doubtless feels vindicated, we wonder whether, even today, a white man could say what he said through the medium of a Right-wing magazine. For, while politicians and opinion-formers may be coming round to his point of view, the inert mass of public sector jobsworths and racism awareness counsellors and outreach workers remains in place; and, for the race industry, multiculturalism is not a question of creed, but of livelihood.

The debate may have moved on, but public policy has not. In recent days, Celtic’s goalkeeper, Artur Boruc, has been cautioned by police for crossing himself, and a woman was banned from an airline after she asked a flight attendant to stop saying “Oh my God”, and then suggested that he would have taken her more seriously if she had been a Muslim.

As for Mr Boruc, see below.

It is tempting to say, “I told you so.” The Leftists - of all parties - who inflicted their divisive creed on Britain are now waking up to the consequences. Many things that they hold dear - separation of Church and state, parity of the sexes, equality of all citizens before the law, tolerance of sexual minorities - are now in jeopardy. Then again, joy shall be in Heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over 99 just persons, which need no repentance.

The correct way forward is obvious. As a country, we ought to insist on certain shared civic virtues - personal freedom, parliamentary democracy, the rule of law - without fussing about how people eat, dress or pray. This is not a new formula. For hundreds of years, most British subjects were neither white nor Christian. Yet, twice in the previous century, millions of Empire and Commonwealth volunteers crossed half the world in order to fight for a country that they had never seen because they believed in what Britain stood for.

It is that vision of nationhood, civic rather than ethnic, that we ought to be promoting. Yet it is that vision on which the now discredited multiculturalists, to their shame, have turned their backs.

Telegraph - Kelly ’surprised’ at caution for footballer’s sign of the cross

The decision to caution a goalkeeper for blessing himself before the Glasgow football derby was questioned yesterday by Ruth Kelly, the Communities Secretary.

Scottish prosecutors took the action against the Celtic player Artur Boruc after receiving complaints about his behaviour in a game with rivals Rangers last season.

Miss Kelly, a practising Roman Catholic and member of the Opus Dei sect, told the BBC News 24 Sunday programme that she was “surprised” that the decision had been made in a country that was supposed to value religious diversity.

Scottish prosecutors cautioned the Polish footballer for a breach of the peace after deciding that his actions had provoked “alarm and crowd trouble”.

The decision has been condemned by the Catholic Church in Scotland, which says it intends to seek clarification from the Crown Office on whether the sign of the cross is deemed to be an offensive action.
