Mere Rhetoric responding to the NYT:
Two journalists kidnapped in Gaza were released unharmed today after being forced at gunpoint to say on a videotape that they had converted to Islam. …
You idiot! You total blistering idiot! Being forced to convert is a harm. It might be the oldest harm short of death - being forced to renounce your faith and your god. Millions of people - literally millions - have died rather than deign to utter words that would force them to give up their faith.
Yeah, nice.
But then religion doesn’t actually mean anything, it’s just a silly way to pass your Sunday mornings, which is worth it because then you get to be mean to gay people and unwed mothers.
Of course, these two might not be religious anyway, in which case, no harm no foul, eh?

Total fucking morons on either side. Either you actually believe something or you don’t. If I don’t believe something, putting a gun to my head is unlikely to make me think “do you know - you have a point - I can see your reasoning perfectly”. In fact, it will confirm my belief that the faith to which you wish me to convert is in fact, errr…., based on violence, not faith.
