Sniffle XXVIII
Aussie Brett McS sent this to me:
The Courier Mail - Pilot’s bravery rewarded
Major Scott Watkins was due to be presented with the medal by the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
“He is the first Australian to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross since the Vietnam War and one of a number of Australians to have been presented with the UK award,” Dr Nelson said.
Major Watkins was recognised for outstanding flying on a number of occasions. …
“Despite a very real threat to his aircraft, he repeatedly placed himself in exposed positions in order to provide support to other aircraft and the ground forces they were supporting,” Australian Army chief Lieutenant General Peter Leahy said.
“In the opinion of his commanding officer, Major Watkins’ actions undoubtedly saved the lives of a number of soldiers in the battlegroup,” Australian Army chief Lieutenant General Peter Leahy said.
Dr Nelson said all Australians should feel proud of the courage showed by Major Watkins.
Meanwhile, I just finished watching Inspector Morse - Promised Land, in which Morse travels, quite unexpectedly, to Australia. Taking this, and Brett’s emailed news of the honoured pilot as perchance a sign, I checked and:

Dear oh dear.

Er, on the same day the Aussies were being so, um, inhospitable to the English cricketers at the ‘Gabba, their Rugby Union team was thrashing Scotland here in Edinburgh and their Rugby League team was winning the world championship.
You can go off people, you know.

Nah, no you can’t. Not the Aussies!
Hehehehe
This is just terribly amusing.
