Bush’s political capacity at home as well as abroad now depends on Iraq
For while only the second half of his speech dealt directly with Iraq, the blunt truth is that events in Baghdad will determine Mr Bush’s political standing in Washington.
Yeah well he’s only got two years left and then he’s gone for good. What about how it will determine the political standing of those remaining? Congress, for instance? Who share no small part of the, ah, responsibility for those events? Anyone interested in agonizing about that? No, because Congress doesn’t have to give its own State of the Union.
