Wheat & Weeds - There’s Nothing We Can Do About Defeatism

…but the thing that sticks in my craw so badly is the point Gen. Keane makes:

On the “Charlie Rose Show” this month, former Army vice chief of staff Gen. Jack Keane, who supports the counterinsurgency plan being undertaken by Gen. David Petraeus, said in exasperation: “My God, this is the United States. We are the world’s No. 1 superpower. This isn’t about arrogance. This is about capability and applying ourselves to a problem that is at its essence a human problem.”

I just had Hugh Hewitt on while doing the dishes and I had to turn it off. John Thune I think was on, and all anyone can say is that “we” have to defeat these resolutions, the Warner one, the Democrat’s one, whichever, because of the message it sends our troops, we have to support our troops, we have to stand by our troops, the troops need to see that we’re with them etc. Sorry, but I didn’t think we went to war to support the troops. That picture of the flag raised at Iwo Jima, I don’t look at that and think, “Gosh, the troops must have really appreciated that.” The music doesn’t strike up during the battle scenes in Braveheart to highlight how supported the troops behind Mel Gibson must feel. There’s a country at the heart of this. You’d think one or two politicians, even radio hosts, might have noticed that by now.
