They are anathema to commercial growers because they take feed that would otherwise go to bulking out the fruit, and they also result in a bushy, all-over-the-place laid-back sort of plant that's less handy to cultivate than one that's neatly supported by a piece of string. I did my first side-shooting at the age of four.
