Mainichi - 1 year’s worth of dust removed from Nara’s giant Buddha

NARA — About 200 people gathered at the giant Buddha at Nara’s Todaiji Temple on Tuesday to remove one year’s worth of dust from the bronze statue.

The cleaning of the Rushanabutsu (Vairocana) Buddha began after a ceremony to remove the Buddha’s soul was performed from about 7 a.m.
