This is fascinating to watch (I’ve never heard him speak before):

Pavarotti Masterclass

So, he died from his pancreatic cancer this morning. This Times article mentions this:

He started singing on the operatic circuit and his big break came thanks to another Italian opera great, Giuseppe di Stefano, who dropped out of a London performance of “La Boheme” in 1963.

Which is interesting, because Giuseppe di Stefano is best known for being Maria Callas’ partner in most of her operas back in the 50s and early 60s. And last I checked, after being ambushed with his wife and severely beaten at his home in Kenya, he’s still in a coma after being flown to a clinic in Milan, in December of 2004. So, I just think that’s interesting, that Stefano has outlived him, despite the seeming generation gap, of which there really isn’t one, and all the rest of it.
