Absolutely the Funniest Item of the Day CLI

How could I have never heard of Uncle Jay?

Curtsy: CDR Salamander

So I counted up the days on the calendar at the end and got… 78.

Gosh they sure do cause a lot of trouble for 78 days on the job.

Every day Congress is in session, the American people are at risk. I propose cutting their work days in half.

  2. ninme Says:

Oh I’m not saying their workload isn’t enough, just remarking how remarkable it is that they can do so much damage in the limited time they’re actually there.

  3. RC2 Says:

I know –I just want Uncle Jay to shut up and not give anyone any ideas.

Gridlock: it’s very patriotic. WAY more patriotic than dissent.

It’s true. But it took an Aussie to point it out.

Absolutely the Funniest Item of the Day CXLIX

(First of all, what’s with people who actually get paid for writing (journalists, professional bloggers) never turning spellcheck on when they type? Do they think they have people for this?)

So, a journalist I’ve never heard of working for a newspaper company I couldn’t name which bought what was previously a newspaper company I could name but only because we’ve subscribed to the Merc my whole life (but ending at the end of the month) and I drove by the building with the big sign on it on El Camino nearly every day writes a big long idiotic blog post and creates a miracle.

First read the blog post:

LGF - Media Arrogance Squared

Then read what’s left of the blog post at his blog:

The Gallivant - Simply Simpatico

Then read the 197 comments.

One hundred and ninety seven comments. On the war. And every single one is in agreement with every single other one. I can see maybe six getting through really quick, but then somebody trolling one of the sites who linked to it run over there to get the guy’s back. And after a dozen or so, I expected a whole rush of people from some liberal blog to have run over to tip the scales. But it never happens. 197 comments. It’s incredible. It’s a miracle.

And the other thing, they’re all really good comments. Some of them call him names using saucy language, and one or two call into question his sexual proclivities, but none of them are really awful and hurtful and pointless and off-the-subject. None of them call him Hitler, either, which has to be the first violation of Godwin’s Law known to mankind since the invention of the internet.

Favourites: Letalis Maximus, Esq., The Mongbat, xxx, Joanne Jacobs, RangersLeadTheWay, Dexter Westbrook, Kerry, Pointless, Holmwood, and of course, Tailburger.

Update!

I tried going to his main blog site after posting this (I had the entry up overnight) and it wouldn’t load. “Hrmm,” thinks I, but then think maybe his server was overloaded. Not so!

LGF - McClatchy Reporter Calvan Created His Own Reality

Good thing I had ye olde Back button. Unfortunately, Peter doesn’t have ye olde Paparazzi utility installed on this machine.

LGF’s got some of the guy’s other stuff in that link, and some updates to the first link. Man, he’s a sh.tty writer. Why do American journalists insist on writing the Great American War Novel with every dispatch?

  1. Bubblehead Says:

The “reporter” reposted his original post, and added an “apology” at the top of his blog. He still doesn’t seem to understand that what this episode revealed about his whole attitude towards servicepeople is what we’re mad about — and the seeming fact that a lot of people in his profession probably feel the same way deep down inside.

  2. ninme Says:

Yeah, I saw this last night before going to bed, and he does apologize, he does say he can be wrong, but there is that line about this only being intended originally for friends and family so he doesn’t have to say the same thing in a million email replies, so does he think we’re mad because he’s sharing? That sometimes he said too much, and he’s new to this blogging business (and what, exactly, is so hard to fathom about it?) so like this whole stink came from him talking too much, which doesn’t tackle the problem of what he actually thinks. But then that’s what journalists are always saying so reverently, that their personal opinions would never get in the way of their careful, sacred duty to report the news without bias, which is of course a huge steaming load of horsepuckey which is what we’re always trying to tell them but what they always assume is just us telling them they let their slip show.

  3. Rueful Red Says:

This guy just likes himself far more than the evidence would seem to justify.

  4. VinceBrewster Says:

Don’t know about you, but I could do with fewer journalists and more reporters. . . . Well, maybe we do have enough reporters, just too many journalists.

Just the facts, ma’am. (Did you know that Sgt. Joe Friday never said those exact words?)

Absolutely the Funniest Item of the Day CXLVIII

The video itself isn’t why it’s funny. That the video is being aired is what’s funny.

I guess Mr Rather had already tirelessly tracked down every lead and scraped together every fact for the best and the best-researched broadcast he could do.

Although, he does make a good point about the trenchcoat.

(And he’s in Seattle!)
