Farewell, AC
Alan Coren was the first columnist I ever read regularly, knew by name or went looking for.

Farewell to Alan Coren and his unique wit and wisdom
Here’s an interesting, and basically unrelated tidbit from the Telegraph obit:
One of his most successful books was The Collected Bulletins of Idi Amin (1974), a miscellany of his Punch articles guying the former Ugandan dictator; this was despite its being rejected for publication in America on grounds of racial sensitivity.
Good grief. It’s Idi Amin.

Same for me, ninme. I started reading him 40 years ago last month - my school subscribed to “Punch”. He was just the same then as now, he didn’t become funnier over the years - his voice sounded exactly the same whether talking about the Swinging Sixties or Wossname Blair.
Can’t think of anyone else I’m still reading now who I’m still reading now. Or who’s still alive, come to think of it.

“Can’t think of anyone else I’m still reading now who I’m still reading now.”
Meant to say “was reading then who I’m still reading now”.
It’s the short-term memory that’s going….
