God 2.0
Vanderleun had this up weeks and weeks ago (I’m on the laptop’s trackpad so I’m gonna have to skate on finding a link right now) (actually I’m gonna say he probably had the version at the bottom) (and, I wanna say, what the heck is this embed code of theirs? It’s about seven lines long), but now lookit. According to Forbes:
But no single video by any of these user-generated superstars has ever attracted as many viewings as a clip of a little girl wearing a “Princess” T-shirt, reciting the Bible’s Psalm 23.
Via Libby Purves’ Faith Central blog on Times Online. Do, do check out the comments.
Speaking of the cynical, frightened, clueless, reactionary masses, the YouTube version (same thing (although the laptop doesn’t do flash vid so hot so I’m not doing back-to-backs on them) has been seen 200,000 times.
(And by the way. Youtube’s slogan is “Broadcast yourself”. GodTube’s is “Broadcast Him”. I love it when religious people show a bit of wit.)
Now, the thing I don’t get, the #1 video on YouTube is the Evolution of Dance,
Which has been seen 23,000,000 times. Forbes just says that the little girl’s been watched 3.7 million times. So, unless they’re comparing her to other “celebrities” like Lonelygirl15 (never seen anything of hers) and the Back Dormitory Boys (awesome!), then they’d better check their stats.

It is a bit scary to think that many of the commenters on the Libby Purves post may actually have contact with children at some point or other. It sends shudders down my spine.

Yeah. No kidding. Not to mention contact with other human beings.

Though I guess she needs explaining who Shirley is, unless it’s her little sister, who is going to keep on following her all the days of her life.
