&lt;p&gt;I saw recently that a heroine of the Royal Escaping Society (my Dad was in the Australian branch) &lt;a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?view=DETAILS&#038;grid=&#038;xml=/news/2007/10/18/db1801.xml" rel="nofollow"&gt;Andree de Jongh&lt;/a&gt; died a few days ago.  Hers is an awesome story.&lt;/p&gt;

I'm very sorry to hear of your father's death. Mine died nine years ago (on my wedding anniversary!) and I just felt so desolate. In my experience you don't ever "get over" it, but you do find better ways of coping over time. Like ninme and her family, you and your family are very much in my thoughts and prayers.&lt;/p&gt;
