He Must Have Gotten My Invitation
Peter Costello has announced he won’t seek leadership of the Liberal party.
UPDATE. Posted by the Age as Costello was speaking:
There is no danger the Liberal Party will unravel following Saturday’s heavy electoral defeat, its federal director Brian Loughnane says …
Mr Loughnane nominated the parliamentary party’s deputy leader Peter Costello as the person to heal party wounds.
I will trade you, Australia, our entire US Senate, for your Peter Costello.
Obviously the Senate would now feel Oz more receptive to their, ah, unique character.
But I don’t know why he wouldn’t, after, in July, last year, the:
two-fisted leadership throwdown in the nation’s capital!
Though it was distressing at the time, now it would be an ideal opportunity! Which is why I’m convinced he’ll be here any moment. I should vacuum.

Costello has many admirable qualities, but being a uniting leader is not one of them. More suited to the role he had.
The new leader of the party will almost certainly be Zoe Brain’s former classmate, Malcolm Turnbull, a truly excellent prospect for PM. Successful businessman, very smart, he picked up a swing of 9% in his own electorate, when the general swing was against his party.

Dibs on him, too!

No, wrong again. Brendan Nelson. Don’t know much about him. He did talk at a CIS meeting, but I didn’t attend that one. Julie Bishop is the deputy leader though. She is a class act, and could well be the leader by the next election (or at least soon after).
