There’s That Dog Metaphor Again
The Telegraph - Hillary Clinton should muzzle Bill
Hillary Clinton’s bid for the presidency has been transformed by the emergence of her husband, Bill, as attack dog for her campaign. Having stayed in the background before the caucuses and primaries began, when his wife had established a large opinion poll lead over her rivals, Mr Clinton moved into the front line following her loss of Iowa to Barack Obama. The 42nd President of the United States has since accused Mr Obama of concocting a “fairy tale” about his opposition to the invasion of Iraq. Such has been Mr Clinton’s prominence in his wife’s campaign that the junior senator from Illinois has confessed to not knowing sometimes whom he is running against.
Given his exceptional skills as a communicator, it is not surprising that Mrs Clinton should increasingly rely on her husband to energise her campaign. But this reliance raises two questions. The first has to do with Mr Clinton’s legacy, the second with the long-term effect of his prominence on his wife’s chances of making the White House.
It is demeaning to the office of president that a former holder should play such a nakedly partisan role in support of one party. Mr Clinton is evidently dismissive of that argument. As for his own legacy, he sees its crowning achievement as helping his wife become the 44th President.
Ahem.
Anyway, this is another test. Peter put in the Cron-tab which lets me schedule future posts, always handy for holidays and life’s last minute curve-balls. So let’s see if the thing works, eh?
Meanwhile, you may notice the front page isn’t updating. The last entry about Homeownershippy things still shows just one comment, when in actuality there are two. So watch out for that.
Pre-scheduled-posting-time update:
I skipped the bit about tonight’s South Carolina primary since I hadn’t checked them yet, but looks like the Telegraph was on to something.
Post-scheduled-but-pre-posted update:
Well that didn’t work. Stupid piece of …..
