See, the thing that pisses me off is why nobody ever seemed to think it was the slightest bit peculiar why my little blog was killing every server it came in contact with. I mean, Little Green Footballs I ain’t.

Anyway, I’m off Movable Type, stupid, retarded, evil Movable Type, and Peter’s like a pig in slop because he’s designed a couple WordPress blogs for various clients and it’s much easier than MT to customize. Speaking of Peter and clients, I shudder to think how much this would have cost had I had to pay him. Good thing I can cook.

But even he, who had to deal with most of the crap from MT, didn’t want me to switch because WP is seriously retarded. Last night I couldn’t get it to do line breaks. The backend is completely counterintuitive. It’s all “Look! Oversized letters! Web two-oh!” but then you quickly realize it was done by a bunch of open-source geeks and it makes no sense. But you know what? After the Movable Type 4.1 upgrade, which was all “Let’s ditch everything that was good about our UI and copy WordPress instead to make the exodus a smoother transition for everyone switching to WordPress!” really, it’s not that bad. Even without the line breaks. But Peter should have fixed that, at least last night.

But it’s fast. Holy Hannah, it’s fast. And when we got up this morning the server hadn’t shut us down and there were comments. So here’s what we have to do, in ascending order:

  • Redesign the whole blog to look pretty again
  • Find a template that as closely as possible matches the old design
  • Figure out where to put all the widgets back in (the Twitter, the Donate, calendar, etc)
  • Set up tags to work properly, for once
  • Import, by hand, about two years’ worth of tags, because this stupid thing doesn’t import the bloody things from MT.
  • Get the Twitter back in
  • Set up caching
  • Fix the past three and a half years of incoming links
  • Set up email uploads (which was actually something that was severely tempting me away from MT even before all this, because you should be able to take a picture and email it to WP to post it, which would come in really handy if I ever get a new phone)
  • Walk downtown to watch the new Rambo movie.

While we’re gone, if anyone sees any 404s, could you let me know? They’re really easy to fix, just gotta find them.
