Sunday At the Movies
This morning we went downtown to see Be Kind Rewind, which was good. It started a little slow in the beginning (”Is it going to be Jack Black doing this all 94 minutes?) but got really good when they started making the movies.
And then we ran some errands and jumped on a bus for home so I could watch the dresses and the Oscars! John Stewart cracks me up. And how cute was it when he had the Czech/Irish girl come back on stage after the ads to do her speech? And who else thinks that Nicole Kidman was sitting in a green room all night surrounded by a phalanx of doctors and relaxing music? And how great was Marion Cotillard/and her dress?
Update:
So Nikki Finke really just doesn’t like John Stewart. Chris Ayres though, blogging for The Times, does. So apparently Chris and I have the same taste in comedy. But then, of course we do.
(Update II: I also like how the American Nikki Finke says Daniel Day Lewis’ is “the most literary speech of the evening”, while Chris calls him typically nonsensical. Heh heh heh.)
Update III:
Btw, while I’m at it: Marion Cotillard had the best dress, RenĂ©e Zellwegger looked as usual like a twig lollypop, and Cameron Diaz needs to stop tanning (did you see her neck?). Peter thinks I should have a “ninme for chicks” blog (my title) that he can design completely in pink where I can be catty about dresses and gush about Nicole Kidman without having to worry about boring my usual audience.
Update IV:
She holds a distinguished place alongside Simone Signoret as the only French actresses to win the Academy Awards for Best Actress. She is the first Best Actress winner in a non-English language peformance since Sofia Loren’s win in 1962 for her performance in Two Women . She is also the first and only winner of an Academy Award for a performance in the French language.
Yaaaay!
And, I have to point out, the nights acting winners are Irish, Scottish, French, and Spanish. Just pointing that out.
Update V (2.25):
This cracks me up:
BBC - Stars share their Oscar success
Best actor Day-Lewis was the last to come backstage, and there was one thing everyone wanted to know: Why did he kiss George Clooney when he won?
“Well, apart from anything else he was the nearest fellow nominee,” he explained.
“He’s just a great guy. I had to kiss someone. I kissed my wife, and in the interest of parity, I kissed George.”
What a stupid question.
Update VI:
I agree with this.
