Take His Badge and Give Him a Seventh Grade Classroom
Hilarious!
I don’t think he should be fired, btw. Apparently the officer, Salvatore Rivieri, has been suspended while they do an investigation and 82% of the people polled on the Baltimore Sun’s webpage said he was “way out of line”, but I don’t think so at all. It sounded very parental. Except for the wrestling the kid to the ground. But that’s only bad since you know he only did it cuz he was really, really pissed, since people are always so careful about that sort of thing so they don’t get sued by the little punk’s parents.
Anyway, apparently this has “sparked renewed debate” here about police brutality. I hardly think that qualifies. And despite what the Telegraph thinks, I don’t think the “dude” thing is comical at all. 14-year-olds should never be calling policemen “dude”. Most kids I know certainly wouldn’t. It would more likely be the only time in their lives they’d ever use the word “sir”.

Ima hate to say it…. but that officer is the inner and sometimes outer me.
Yoofs these days aren’t any better or worser, but they do tend to blur age/authority lines more than in the past. I blame Bush and the interwebs for this. The obverse is also true, way to much give-a-damn is given to humans who should be reading books and worried about losing their lunch money.

I’m not surprised. I attract the old and crotchety at heart. And I think I bring out the cantankerous in people.
