Shaky hands? I've double clicked by accident before.

Personally I'd like it for Tibet to be just left alone. I don't think you get to be China, do to Tibet what China's done to Tibet, have everything blow up in your face, and then have everybody else say "Well let's compromise!"

Anyway, if they keep "intermingling" the Chinese population might get some of that nitric oxide goodness.

I like that people are leaving comments, tho. It makes me feel connected to humanity that I don't have to sit on hold for half the day to be connected to.

I was listening to a talk by Prof Rob Thurman (expert on Tibet, and father of Uma) where he mentioned the genetic feature of Tibetan people that enables them to live at high altitude (something to do with a gene that produces more Nitric Oxide in the blood). Because they don't have it, there is an epidemic of Chronic Mountain Sickness amongst the Chinese who have gone to live in Tibet (as part of the usual Hanisation strategy). This disease damages the heart over time, causing the right ventricle to expand and fatigue.

His point was that the attempted Chinese takeover won't work (for other reasons also), so they may as well come to the sort of accommodation that the Dalai Lama has been offering - which would put Tibet more on the footing of Hong Kong, and keep Tibet for the Tibetans.
