I think the bird you describe running around is a Francolin, they make an interesting sound too.
We did the road to Hana, it's like driving the Santa Cruz mountains but mo'betta. We didn't like Hana much, too many damn mosquitoes. I like taking the road up around the northern tip more, but it's awful narrow in places.

Um, dude? I just got here Wednesday night and I've been really, really busy.

But when Peter arrives, we're probably going to get on the Road to Hana. Haven't decided if we'll go the whole way to Lindburgh's grave, tho.

You have of course gone to Hana and even beyond to the small churchyard where Charles Lindburgh is buried. Right?

Thank you. I don't think I've ever seen the moon set before. It's usually long gone even by the wee hours.

There's this one bird I saw today, running around a planter. Literally running. It was like an emu, but flight-size. Craziest thing. Little head, brown body, longish legs, maybe 8 inches tall, and could book it. And I've seen three lizards! All in the same place, out side the southern side entrance I take to get to my far-flung bit of parking lot. I don't think I've ever seen a lizard here all the times I've been here, but they keep popping up this time.

Haven't seen one of those frogs yet. Which is good, cuz I didn't get a rubber mallet at the hardware store the other day.

That's a great picture.

Tropical (and sub-tropical) birds can be very pretty to look at, but tend to the Hillaryesque in the vocal department.

Yes. Absolutely. A lot of these birds? Not really birds. They're the resort security system. Step out onto the lanai with sneakers on and their eyes turn red and their beaks turn into sirens. Then men, big polynesian types, rappel down onto the balcony and untie your laces for you. Flip flops? Might get away lightly with a security bird dive-bombing your eye-balls until you kick them off.

step out on the lanai

One day, one day soon I'm going to try that. I assume barefoot is da-rigor?
