I’m In Maui, Day 12!
So yesterday we did so much stuff (we were in Walmart for like 2 hours and I don’t even like Walmart) and brought home so much stuff (we filled two of the blue shopping carts they keep in the garage here) that I was just starting to cook dinner at 8.30 when I sliced a chunk of the tip of my left thumb off. We left here at 8.34, had to drive all the way across the island again to the emergency room in Wailuku because the clinic on this side stops taking patients at 8.30, got there at 9.30ish because we couldn’t find of and I had to call 911 for directions (I’m glad cell phones know to call 911 in Maui and not Seattle), were sitting there only a few minutes, were numbed up and getting cleaned up by 11, and were out of there by 11.51, stopped for raid construction and some bread to eat at Safeway on the way home, and was in bed by 1. The doctor and nurse there? Awesome.
Those knives Costco sell are sharp.

Ouch!! A dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one actually! One of my pet-peeves about some of the condo units in which we’ve stayed has been the abysmally poor quality of their Kitchen tools - I mean some really-really awful and bendy crap-knives that wouldn’t even peel an avocodo. I guess they worry about theft-loss, but on a couple of occasions we HAD to go to Ross and just get a cheap knife-block of “fresh” Faberware (or whatever), just to peel an orange or do ANYTHING. Ok I’m a gourmet type and need my Henkels… ;-)

I know, that’s what was so ironic. The knives I usually use are desperate to be properly sharpened yet the time I actually do manage to cut myself… Basically I was just tired, in a hurry, and not paying attention to where I was leaving my thumb.

Dear Ninme,
So sorry to hear about the accidental damage. I hope you recover full function of your thumb!
I would wish you more fun and joy on your vacation but my x totally completely hated that I could ever see any fun in the future. Crippled the whole idea that anyone could have fun evaaah.
as for me, I’m getting all my knives sharpened immediately. The worst wound I ever gave myself 23 years ago was with a dull sailor’s knife.

Hope it doesn’t interfere with any fun! The Humuhumununukuku’s down in Wailea have a light blue stripe that’s a bit different from the ones up by Ka’anapaali… :-) And there’s Mama’s Fish House up just past Pa’ia of you care to splurge a little, the view across the beach beneath the palms is an indelible post-card.

Tempted to start running Kayz to Maui. Looks like there’s a huge demand.
