For what it’s worth, many years before reunification, I once stood on the steps of the Schonberg city hall which was the place from which JFK spoke, and in my best fake-Bostonian accent intoned the last couple of sentences from that speech.
People walking past had that air of, “Oh, there’s another one being an idiot!” about them.
“Lat tham cam to Bairlin!”
